WLAN Security Stack

IEEE802.1X is the standard for Port-based Network Access Control (PNAC). R Soft Global Services offers the portable implementation of the IEEE 802.1X. It can be used in Wireless Access Points (AP) for providing security services. The 802.1X framework empowers the secure exchange of authentication inputs and prevents virtually any unauthorized network access.

When used in Wireless LAN AP, R Soft Global Services PNAC not only provides authentication of the WLAN stations, but also improves security because of its robust, extensible security framework and data privacy capabilities.

R Soft Global Services PNAC can be easily ported to different operating systems and switch hardware using well-defined external interfaces.

Features:

  • Supports port based authentication: The frames across point-to-point links are forwarded only after authentication of ports.
  • Supports MAC based authentication: Across shared LANs, the frames are forwarded only after sender is authenticated for that port.
  • Provide interface with RADIUS Client for authentication and key refreshing.
  • Offers local authentication mechanisms for usernames and passwords.
  • Act as an interface to communicate session key to the WLAN driver.
  • Support supplicant functionality: For both authenticator PAE and supplicant PAE.
  • Provide access control based on ACTIVE or INACTIVE configuration.
  • Support all the MIB objects as provided in the 802.1X standard.
  • Support for configuration and management is via SNMP and CLI

This highly portable code uses flexible timer and buffer management libraries to provide easy integration with different types of access-point hardware from various vendors.

Advantage:

R Soft Global Services PNAC reduces the time to market for OEMs who wish to incorporate the security services into their switching/routing devices. It also provides easy portability and maintenance on multiple platforms.
